The Huanoquite District is located in the Paruro Province in the Cusco Region in south-central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​361 km². At the 2017 census, there were 5,180 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 5724, in 2007 it was 5556. The district administration is located in the 3391  m high village of Huanoquite with 1629 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huanoquite is located 20 km northwest of the provincial capital Paruro and 18 km south-southwest of the regional capital Cusco .

Geographical location

The Huanoquite District is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the Paruro Province. The Río Apurímac flows west along the southern and southwestern district boundaries . In the south east, the district is bounded by the Río Molle Molle. Its left source river, the Río Ccorcca, crosses the northeast of the district in a southerly direction.

The district of Huanoquite borders in the southwest with the district Tambobamba ( province Cotabambas ), in the northwest with the district Chinchaypujio ( province Anta ), in the north with the district Ccorca ( province Cusco ), in the extreme northeast with the district Santiago (also in the province Cusco) ), in the east to the districts of Yaurisque and Paccaritambo and in the south to the district of Ccapi .
