The Chinchaypujio district is located in the Anta province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on October 1, 1941. It has an area of ​​396 km². The 2017 census counted 4,428 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5988, in 2007 it was 4724. The district administration is located in Chinchaypujio at an altitude of 3075  m with 1128 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chinchaypujio is located 20 km south-southwest of the provincial capital Anta and 30 km west-southwest of the regional capital Cusco .

Geographical location

The Chinchaypujio district is located in the Andes in the south of Anta province. The Río Apurímac flows west along the southern district boundary. The area is drained by several rivers south to the Río Apurímac. The watershed runs along the northern district boundary to the Río Urubamba , which runs further north .

The Chinchaypujio district is bordered to the west by the district Limatambo , on the north by the districts Ancahuasi , Zurite and Anta , in the northeast on the district Ccorca ( province of Cusco ), in the southeast of the district Huanoquite ( province Paruro ) and on the south by the districts of Cotabambas and Curahuasi (both in Cotabambas Province ).
