The Zurite district is located in the Anta Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​60.9 km². The 2017 census counted 3762 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4083, in 2007 3705. The district administration is located in the village of Zurite, at an altitude of 3405  m , with 1546 inhabitants (as of 2017). Zurite is about 12 km west of the provincial capital Anta .

Geographical location

The Zurite district is centrally located in the Anta province. The area is drained via the Río Huarocondo north to the Río Urubamba .

The Zurite district borders in the extreme south on the Chinchaypujio district , in the west on the Ancahuasi district , in the north on the Huarocondo district and in the east on the Anta district .
