The Anta Province is one of thirteen provinces in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . It has an area of 1876.12 km². At the 2017 census there were 56,206 people in the province. In 1993 the population was 56,424, in 2007 54,828. The provincial administration is located in Anta .
Geographical location
The province of Anta is located in the Andes , 20 km west of the regional capital Cusco . It has a longitudinal extension in east-west direction of about 83 km and a maximum width of about 40 km. The upper reaches of the Río Apurímac flows along the southwestern provincial border to the northwest. The Cordillera Vilcabamba , a glaciated mountain range of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera with its highest peak, the 6,264 m high Salcantay , forms the northwestern provincial border.
The province of Anta is bordered by the province of La Convención in the north-west, the province of Urubamba in the north, the province of Cusco in the east, the province of Paruro in the south-east and the provinces of Cotabambas and Abancay (both in the Apurímac region ) in the west .

The province of Anta is divided into nine districts. The district of Anta is the seat of the provincial administration.
