The Paucartambo Province is one of thirteen provinces in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . It has an area of 6295 km². At the 2017 census there were 42,504 people in the province. In 1993 the population was 40,696, in 2007 45,877. The provincial administration is located in Paucartambo .
Geographical location
The province of Paucartambo is located in the Andes , about 30 km east-northeast of the regional capital Cusco . It has a longitudinal extent in NNW-SSE direction of about 114 km and a maximum width of about 75 km. The area is crossed by the mountain ranges of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera . In the extreme southeast is the glaciated mountain range of the 5522 m high Jolljepunco (also Colquepunco). The northeast of the province is drained via the Río Alto Madre de Dios . The Río Paucartambo (Río Yavero) flows through the southwest of the province in a north-northwest direction.
The province of Paucartambo borders in the north and northeast on the province of Manu ( region Madre de Dios ), in the southeast on the province Quispicanchi , in the southwest on the province Acomayo and in the west on the province of Calca .

The province of Paucartambo is divided into six districts. The district of Paucartambo is the seat of the provincial administration.
