The Colquepata district is located in the Paucartambo Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 459 km². The 2017 census counted 9,069 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 8572, in 2007 it was 9616. The seat of the district administration is the village of Colquepata with 695 inhabitants located at an altitude of 3679 m (as of 2017). Colquepata is 10 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Paucartambo and 37 km east-northeast of the regional capital Cusco . Above the Río Mapacho (upper reaches of Río Paucartambo or Río Yavero) is the archaeological site of Huatocto.
Geographical location
The Colquepata district is located in the Andes in the southwest of the Paucartambo province. It has a lengthwise extension in NW-SE direction of 50 km and a maximum width of about 15 km. The Río Mapacho / Río Paucartambo runs north along the eastern district border.
The Colquepata district borders in the west on the districts of San Salvador , Písac , Lamay and Calca , in the north on the district Challabamba , in the northeast on the district Paucartambo and in the south on the districts Ccatca , Huancarani and Caicay .
