The district of Písac (alternative spelling: District Pisac ) is located in the province of Calca in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​148.25 km². The 2017 census counted 9884 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 8,777, in 2007 9,440. The district administration is located in the small town of Písac with 3,718 inhabitants located at an altitude of 2974  m on the right bank of the Río Urubamba . Písac is 17 km northeast of the regional capital, Cusco . In the district, in the mountains above the town of Písac, there is the Inca ruin Písac.

Geographical location

The district of Písac is located in the south of the province of Calca. It lies almost entirely on the right, northeast bank of the Río Urubamba, which runs in a northwest direction. There it extends over the southeastern foothills of the Cordillera Urubamba .

The district of Písac borders in the southwest with the district Taray , in the west with the district Coya , in the northwest with the district Lamay , in the northeast with the district Colquepata ( province Paucartambo ) and in the south with the district San Salvador .
