The Taray district is located in the Calca Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on May 6, 1964. It has an area of 54.8 km². The 2017 census counted 4880 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4275, in 2007 it was 4758. The seat of the district administration is the town of Taray with 636 inhabitants located south of the west-flowing Río Urubamba at an altitude of 3024 m (as of 2017). Taray is located 15 km southeast of the provincial capital Calca and 16 km northeast of the regional capital Cusco .
Geographical location
The district of Taray is located in the Andes in the south of the province of Calca. The Río Urubamba flows west along the northern district boundary.
The district of Taray is bordered by the districts of San Jerónimo , San Sebastián and Cusco (all three in the province of Cusco ) to the south and west, the district of Coya to the northwest , the district of Písac to the northeast and the district of San Salvador to the east .
