The district of Coya is located in the province of Calca in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on September 11, 1951. It has an area of ​​71.4 km². The 2017 census counted 3443 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3402, in 2007 3705. The district administration is located in the small town of Coya with 1,377 inhabitants , located at an altitude of 2944  m on the right bank of the Río Urubamba (as of 2017). Coya is about 10 km southeast of the provincial capital Calca and 17 km north-northeast of the regional capital Cusco .

Geographical location

The district of Coya is located in the Andes in the extreme southwest of the province of Calca. The Río Urubamba flows through the district in a north-westerly direction.

The district of Coya borders in the south with the district Cusco ( province Cusco ), in the southwest with the district Chinchero ( province Urubamba ), in the northwest with the district Calca , in the north with the district Lamay , in the east with the district Písac and in the southeast the district of Taray .
