The district of San Salvador is located in the province of Calca in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on February 28, 1946. It has an area of 128 km². The 2017 census counted 5976 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4868, in 2007 it was 5219. The district administration is located on the right bank of the Río Urubamba at an altitude of 2934 m , San Salvador with 1522 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Salvador is located almost 27 km southeast of the provincial capital Calca and 22 km east of the regional capital Cusco .
Geographical location
The district of San Salvador is located in the Andes in the extreme southeast of the province of Calca. The Río Urubamba crosses the district in a north-westerly direction.
The district of San Salvador is bordered to the south by the districts of Lucre and Oropesa (both in the province of Quispicanchi ), to the southwest by the districts of Saylla and San Jerónimo (both in the province of Cusco ), to the west by the Taray district and to the north by the district Písac and to the northeast and east to the districts of Colquepata and Caicay (both in the province of Paucartambo ).
