The province of Quispicanchi is one of thirteen provinces of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . It has an area of 7565 km². At the 2017 census, there were 87,430 people in the province. In 1993 the population was 75,853, in 2007 it was 82,173. The provincial administration is located in Urcos .
Geographical location
The province of Quispicanchi is located in the Andes , about 30 km east-southeast of the regional capital Cusco . It has a longitudinal extent in the WSW-ONE direction of about 150 km and a maximum width of about 60 km. The area is crossed by the mountain ranges of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera . The glaciated Cordillera Vilcanota mountain range with the 6384 m high Ausangate runs along the southern provincial border . The eastern part of the province is drained by the Río Araza . The western part of the province forms the headwaters of the Río Paucartambo (Río Yavero).
The province of Quispicanchi borders in the northeast on the province of Paucartambo , in the northeast on the province of Manu ( region Madre de Dios ), in the southeast on the province of Carabaya ( region Puno ), in the southwest on the province of Canchis , in the southwest on the province of Acomayo and in the West to the provinces of Paruro , Cusco and Calca .
Administrative division
The province of Quispicanchi is divided into twelve districts. The Urcos district is the seat of the provincial administration.
