The Camanti district is located in the Quispicanchi province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on October 2, 1951. It has an area of ​​3361 km². At the 2017 census there were 2,481 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 2175, in 2007 it was 2073. The district administration is located in the 873  m high town of Quincemil (alternative spelling: Quince Mil) with 1950 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quincemil is located on the Río Araza 107 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Urcos . The highway from Puno to Cusco runs through the city.

Geographical location

The Camanti District is located in the extreme northeast of the Quispicanchi Province. The district extends over the northeast flank of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera . It extends in the southwest to the foothills of the Cordillera Vilcanota . In the southwest rises the 5079  m high Ancahuachana, on the southern district border the 5242  m high Vizcachani. The Río Araza crosses the district in a northeastern direction and drains it. The Transoceánica follows the course of the Río Araza. In the extreme northeast, the district extends to the confluence of the Río Araza in the Río Inambari .

The Camanti district is bordered on the southwest by the district Marcapata , the west by the district Kosñipata ( Province Paucartambo ), in the northwest on the district Madre de Dios ( province of Manu ), the north by the district Huepetuhe ( province of Tambopata ) and to the east districts Ayapata , San Gabán and Ollachea (all three in the province Carabaya ).
