The Ccarhuayo District is located in the Quispicanchi Province of the Cusco Region in south-central Peru . The district was established on November 25, 1960. It has an area of ​​303 km². At the 2017 census, 3,105 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 2631, in 2007 2886. The district administration is located in the 3449  m high village of Ccarhuayo with 860 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ccarhuayo is located 26 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Urcos .

Geographical location

The district of Ccarhuayo is located in the northwest of the province of Quispicanchi. The Río Mapacho (upper reaches of the Río Paucartambo / Río Yavero) flows north along the western district boundary. In the extreme northeast of the district there is a glaciated mountain range that lies north of the actual Cordillera Vilcanota . This includes the peaks Jolljepunco ( 5522  m ) and Cinajara ( 5471  m ). The area is drained to the west by the Quebrada Mullamayo, Quebrada Sillotamayo and Río Jachecalle rivers.

The district of Ccarhuayo borders in the southeast and in the south with the district Ocongate , in the west with the district Ccatca , in the northwest with the district Paucartambo and in the northeast with the district Kosñipata (the last two districts mentioned belong to the province Paucartambo ).
