The Manu Province is located in the Madre de Dios region in southeastern Peru . The province has an area of ​​27,835 km². At the 2017 census, 18,549 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 13,827, in 2007 20,290. The administrative seat is the municipality of Salvación . In the west of the province lies the Manú National Park .

Geographical location

The province of Manu is located in the southwest of the Madre de Dios region in the Amazon lowlands . It has a length in NW-SE direction of about 265 km and a width of about 105 km. The north of the province is traversed by the Río Manú and Río Madre de Dios in an east-southeast direction. The province extends in the southwest to the hills in front of the Andes. The Río Alto Madre de Dios flows through the central area of ​​the province in SSW-NNE direction. Not far from the river is the provincial capital Salvación. The Río Inambari runs along the eastern border of the province.

The province of Manu borders on the province of Tambopata in the north and east and on the region of Cusco in the south and west .

Administrative division

Manu Province is divided into four districts. The Manu District is the seat of the provincial administration.
