The Manu District , alternative spelling: Manú District , is located in the Manu Province in the Madre de Dios region in southeastern Peru . The district was established on December 26, 1912. It extends over an area of 8696 km². The 2017 census counted 2,488 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1559, in 2007 it was 2645. The district administration is located in the 550 m high provincial capital Salvación with 1340 inhabitants (as of 2017). The Manú National Park extends over the district.
Geographical location
The district of Manu is located in the Amazon lowlands in the middle of the province of Manu. The Río Manú forms the northern boundary of the district. In the south, the district extends to the northern foothills of the Cordillera Carabaya .
The district of Manu borders in the northwest, in the north and in the northeast with the district Fitzcarrald , in the southeast with the district Madre de Dios , in the south with the district Kosñipata ( province Paucartambo ), in the southwest with the district Yanatile ( province Canta ), in the west to the districts of Quellouno and Echarati ( province of La Convención ),
