The Quellouno district (alternative spelling: Quelloúno district ) is located in the La Convención province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The Hispanic name is derived from the Quechua language: Q'illuunu for "yellow water". The Quellouno District was established on October 1, 1986. It has an area of ​​799.68 km². At the 2017 census, there were 13,311 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 11,197, in 2007 15,032. The district administration is located in the 800  m high small town of Quellouno with 1496 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Quellouno district is located in the central east of the La Convención province, about 120 km northwest of the regional capital, Cusco . The district is traversed by several mountain ranges between 2000  m and 4000  m high in the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera in an east-west direction. The Río Urubamba tributaries, Río Yanatile and Río Yavero, flow through the district in a westerly direction.

The district of Quellouno borders in the south, west and north on the district Echarati and in the east on the district Manu in the province Manu of the region Madre de Dios , on the district Yanatile ( province Calca ) and on the district Ocobamba .
