Hot springs in Santa Teresa

The Santa Teresa district is located in the La Convención province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district founded on October 11, 1957 has an area of ​​1340.38 km². At the 2017 census, 5,972 people lived in the district. The district administration is located in Santa Teresa . In the extreme south of the district is the important archaeological site Choquequirao from the Inca period.

Geographical location

The district is located in the south of the province of La Convención, about 80 km west-northwest of the regional capital Cusco . The glaciated Cordillera Vilcabamba mountain range crosses the south of the district. The Río Apurímac runs along the southern district boundary. The Río Santa Teresa drains the central area of ​​the district. The Río Vilcabamba flows along the northern district boundary, along the eastern district boundary the Río Ahobamba and Río Urubamba .

The district borders in the west and north with the district Vilcabamba , in the extreme northeast with the district Maranura , in the east with the districts Huayopata and Machupicchu ( province Urubamba ) and in the south with the districts Mollepata ( province Anta ) and Huanipaca ( province Abancay , region) Apurímac ).
