The Villa Virgen district is located in the La Convención province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on November 14, 2014 from parts of the Vilcabamba district . It has an area of 439 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1980 residents in the district. The district administration is located in the village of Villa Virgen on the right bank of the Río Apurímac at an altitude of about 720 m with 1155 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The district of Villa Virgen is located in the southwest of the province of La Convención. The district extends for a length of about 18 km along the right bank of the Río Apurímac and extends about 35 km to the east into the mountains of the Cordillera Vilcabamba , which reaches heights of up to 4338 m in the north of the district . The southern district boundary runs along the Río Toroyunca, Río Choquesayra and Río Pampaconas.
The district of Villa Virgen borders in the north on the districts of Villa Kintiarina and Echarati and in the east and south on the Vilcabamba . To the west, on the opposite bank of the Río Apurímac, are the districts of Chungui and Anco (both in the province of La Mar ).
