The Maranura district is located in the La Convención province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on March 17, 1961. It has an area of ​​150.3 km². At the 2017 census, 4134 inhabitants lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 8878, in 2007 it was 5772. The district administration is located in the 1110  m high village of Maranura with 569 inhabitants (as of 2017). This is 11 km south of the provincial capital Quillabamba .

Geographical location

The Maranura district is located in the central southeast of the La Convención province. The district is located in the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera on both sides of the Río Urubamba, which flows in a northerly direction .

The Maranura district is bordered to the south by the district of Santa Teresa , in the southwest of the district of Vilcabamba , the west by the district of Santa Ana , in the northeast on the district Echarati , on the east by the district Ocobamba and on the southeast by the district Huayopata .
