The Echarati District (or Echarate District ) is located in the La Convención Province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district founded on January 2, 1857 has an area of ​​19,135.5 km². The northern part of the district was spun off as the Megantoni District on July 6, 2016 . In the 2017 census, 23,214 people lived in the district. The district administration is located in Echarati . There are also the larger settlements of Kiteni and Ivochote . All three main towns are located on the Río Urubamba , which flows through the district in a predominantly northerly direction. The district runs through relatively low ridges of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera in a westerly direction.

Geographical location

The district is centrally located in the province of La Convención, about 110 km northwest of the regional capital Cusco . The district borders in the north on the districts Río Tambo ( province Satipo ) and Megantoni, in the east on the districts Fitzcarrald ( province Manu ), Quelloúno , Ocobamba and Maranura , in the south on the districts Santa Ana , Vilcabamba and Villa Virgen and in the west the districts of Villa Kintiarina , Kimbiri and Pichari .
