The district of Huanipaca is located in the province of Abancay in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was established on November 21, 1893. It has an area of ​​427 km². The 2017 census counted 3,069 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4865, in 2007 4515. The district administration is located in the 3150  m high village of Huanipaca with 651 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huanipaca is 16 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Abancay .

Geographical location

The district of Huanipaca is located in the Andean highlands in the extreme northwest of the Abancay Province. The district is bounded by the Río Apurímac in the north and Río Pachachaca in the west. In the south the mountain range of Nevado Ampay rises .

The district of Huanipaca borders in the west on the districts Huancarama and Pacobamba ( Andahuaylas ), in the north on the districts Inkawasi , Vilcabamba and Santa Teresa (all three in the province of La Convención ), in the east on the district San Pedro de Cachora and in the south the districts of Tamburco and Abancay .
