Diesel oil disaster near Norilsk
The diesel oil spill in Norilsk is an industrial accident near Norilsk in the Krasnoyarsk Territory , in Russia, which began on May 29, 2020 as a fuel tank in the thermal power plant no. 3 of Norilsk-Taimyr Energy (owned by Norilsk Nickel expired) and the local Flooded rivers with up to 21,000 cubic meters (17,500 tons) of diesel fuel .
Nornickel stated that Reservoir 5 collapsed when the permafrost on which it was built began to soften. The oil spill is therefore a consequence of the heat wave in Siberia in 2020 .
In July 2020, 44.5 tons of kerosene also leaked from a pipeline operated by the Norilsktransgas company.
Reactions
Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a state of emergency on June 3. The accident has been described as the second largest oil spill in modern Russian history. In 1994/95 around 400,000 tons of crude oil leaked into the environment through a leak in the Komi pipeline .
