The Pichirhua district is located in the Abancay Province in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was founded on November 19, 1839. It has an area of ​​374 km². The 2017 census counted 2928 residents. In 1993 the population was 5,159, in 2007 it was 4,154. The district administration is located in the 2726  m high village of Pichirhua with 163 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pichirhua is 32 km southwest of the provincial capital Abancay .

Geographical location

The Pichirhua district is located in the Andean highlands in the west of the Abancay province. The Río Pachachaca flows along the southeastern district border initially to the northeast, later in a north-northeast direction.

The Pichirhua district borders in the southwest with the district Tintay ( province Aymaraes ), in the northwest with the districts Kishuara and Huancarama (both in the province Andahuaylas ) and in the east with the districts Abancay , Lambrama , Circa and Chacoche .
