The Kishuara District is located in the Andahuaylas Province in the Apurímac region in south-central Peru . The district was established on January 19, 1944. It has an area of ​​309 km². The 2017 census counted 6,453 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7,108, in 2007 it was 8033. The district administration is located in the 3665  m high village of Kishuara with 1067 inhabitants (as of 2017). Kishuara is located about 30 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Andahuaylas .

Geographical location

The district of Kishuara is located in the Andean highlands in the east of the Andahuaylas province. It has a longitudinal extension in north-south direction of 31 km and a maximum width of 15 km. The district includes the upper catchment area of the Río Pincos, a right tributary of the Río Pampas .

The Kishuara district is bordered to the west by the districts of San Jerónimo and Pacucha , in the north and northeast on the district Pacobamba , on the east by the district Huancarama , in the southeast of the district Pichirhua ( province Abancay ) and in the far south to the district Tintay ( Province Aymaraes ).
