The district of San Jerónimo is located in the Andahuaylas province of the Apurímac region in south-central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​237.42 km². At the 2017 census, there were 20,738 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 13,147, in 2007 it was 20,357. The district administration is located in the city of San Jerónimo with 11,829 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The district of San Jerónimo is located in the Andean highlands in the central northeast of the Andahuaylas province. The Río Chumbao , a right tributary of the Río Pampas , flows through the district in a north-westerly direction. The 2944  m high city of San Jerónimo is located in the northwest of the district and forms an eastern suburb of the provincial capital Andahuaylas, just under 3 km further west .

The district of San Jerónimo borders in the northwest with the district Andahuaylas , in the north with the district Pacucha , in the east with the district Kishuara , in the south with the districts Tintay , San Juan de Chacña and Lucre (all three in the province Aymaraes ) and in the southwest to the José María Arguedas District .
