The Lucre district is located in the Aymaraes Province in the Apurímac region in central southern Peru . The district was established on March 24, 1960. It has an area of ​​104 km². The 2017 census counted 1,507 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2238, in 2007 it was 2069. The district administration is located in the village of Lucre, which is about 2800  m high and has 59 inhabitants (as of 2017). Lucre is 38 km north of the provincial capital Chalhuanca .

Geographical location

The Lucre district is located in the Andean highlands in the north-west of the Aymaraes province. The Río Pinco (in the upper reaches of the Río Lucre) crosses the district in a south-easterly direction and drains it to the Río Chalhuanca .

The Lucre district is bordered to the south and the west by the district Colcabamba , in the northwest to the districts José María Arguedas and San Jerónimo (both in the province of Andahuaylas ) and to the east by the districts of San Juan de Chacña and Tintay .

Localities

In addition to the main town, the district has the following larger towns:

  • Cayhuachahua (200 inhabitants)
  • San Juan de Juta (294 inhabitants)
