The district of San Juan de Chacña is located in the province of Aymaraes in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was established on April 17, 1964. It has an area of ​​96.2 km². The 2017 census counted 799 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1181, in 2007 it was 908. The district administration is located in the 2854  m high village of San Juan de Chacña with 655 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Juan de Chacña is located just 42 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Chalhuanca .

Geographical location

The district of San Juan de Chacña is located in the Andean highlands in the north of the province of Aymaraes. The Río Chacña drains the area south to the Río Chalhuanca .

The district of San Juan de Chacña borders on the Lucre district to the west, the San Jerónimo district ( Andahuaylas province ) to the north, and the Tintay district to the east and south
