The Justo Apu Sahuaraura district is located in the Aymaraes province in the Apurímac region in central southern Peru . The district was formed on September 27, 1984 from parts of the Tapairihua district. The district was named after Justo Sahuaraura Inca (* 1770), a member of the Inca aristocracy who advocated the independence of Peru.

The district has an area of ​​101 km². The 2017 census counted 723 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 806, in 2007 it was 1037. The district administration is located in the 3150  m high village of Pichihua with 234 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pichihua is located 18 km northeast of the provincial capital Chalhuanca .

Geographical location

The Justo Apu Sahuaraura district is located in the Andean highlands on the west bank of the Río Antabamba in the center of the Aymaraes province. In the northeast, the district extends to its confluence with the Río Chalhuanca .

The Justo Apu Sahuaraura district is bordered to the west by the district Ihuayllo , on the east by the district Tapairihua, the south by the district Yanaca and on the southwest by the district Chalhuanca .
