The Tintay district is located in the Aymaraes province of the Apurímac region in south- central Peru . The district founded on December 28, 1961 has an area of ​​142 km². The 2017 census counted 2407 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3208, in 2007 3052. The district administration is located in the 2772  m high village of Tintay with 780 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tintay is 38 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Chalhuanca .

Geographical location

The Tintay district is located in the Andean highlands in the far northeast of the Aymaraes province. The Río Pachachaca crosses the south of the district in a northeastern direction.

The district of Tintay is bordered to the west by the districts of Lucre and San Juan de Chacña , to the extreme north by the districts of San Jerónimo and Kishuara , to the northeast by the district of Pichirhua and to the south by the districts of Chapimarca and Colcabamba .
