The Río Pachachaca is an approximately 200 km long left tributary of the Río Apurímac in south-central Peru . The Río Pachachaca flows through the administrative region of Apurímac . In the upper reaches, the river also has the alternative names Río Ichuni and Río Antabamba . The river is a kayak water.
River course
The Río Pachachaca rises in the Cordillera Huanzo , a mountain range of the Peruvian western cordillera , at an altitude of about 4900 m . The river initially flows in a predominantly northwestern direction through the mountains. At river kilometer 96, the Río Chalhuanca flows into the Río Pachachaca from the left. This turns towards the northeast for the next 53 kilometers. In the lower reaches, the Río Pachachaca turns to the northwest and finally flows into the Río Apurímac at an altitude of about 1000 m . At river kilometer 40, the regional capital Abancay is 6 km east of the river. The historic Puente Colonial bridge spans the river 38 km above the estuary .

The catchment area of the Río Pachachaca covers an area of around 8100 km². This lies entirely within the Apurímac region. The mean discharge is 142 m³ / s.
