Tuapaat [ tuaˈpaːtˢʰ ] (according to the old spelling Tuapait ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the Nanortalik district in the municipality of Kujalleq .

location

Tuapaat lies on the north bank of the mouth of the Tasermiut Kangerluat . Nanortalik is only 3.5 km to the northwest .

history

Tuapaat was settled before 1880. From 1911 the place belonged to the municipality Nanortalik.

In 1919 Tuapaat had 66 residents who lived in nine houses. There were thirteen hunters and one catechist among the residents. The population lived mainly from seal and fox hunting.

In 1934, member of the Provincial Council, Kristoffer Salomonsen , proposed the transfer of Tuapaat, which, however, was initially rejected by Aksel Svane , as no location should be relocated against the will of the population. Ultimately, however, the entire state council voted in favor of the plan because of the poor hygienic conditions. In 1936, Grønlands Styrelse considered this and in 1937 came to the conclusion that Tuapaat should remain in its original location.

In 1950 Tuapaat became part of the new municipality of Nanortalik . In 1953 the residential space was given up.
