Qunnermiut [ ˌquˈnːɜmːiutˢʰ ] ( K'uvnermiut according to the old spelling ) is a deserted Greenlandic shepherd settlement in the Nanortalik district in the Kujalleq municipality .

location

Qunnermiut lies on a flat area on the southern tip of the peninsula between the Uunartup Kangerlua and the Sermilik . The island of Pilaffik shields the water from Qunnermiut. The next larger town, Alluitsup Paa, is 18 km to the west .

history

Qunnermiut was founded around 1940 as a residential area and initially had 18 residents. In 1951 the church in Salliit was moved from Pavia Høegh to Qunnermiut and painted red on the outside and gray and gold on the inside. By 1960 the population had risen to 56 people. In 1965, however, the place was abandoned and from then on only used as a shepherd's settlement. While this was still inhabited by 14 people in 1965, there were 11 in 1977 and Qunnermiut was completely deserted the following year.
