Tasiusaq [ ˌtasiuˈsɑq ] (according to the old spelling Tasiussaĸ ) is a Greenlandic settlement in the Nanortalik district in the Kujalleq municipality .
location
Tasiusaq is located at the entrance of a bay of the same name , which flows into the Tasermiut Kangerluat (Ketilsfjord). A path connects with the Tasiusaq lying on the northern shore of the bay, four kilometers away Farm Saputit as well as the more northerly Farm Nuugaarsuk and the farm Nalasut on the south shore of the bay. The next larger settlements are Narsarmijit, 23 km to the south, and the district capital Nanortalik, 24 km to the west-southwest.
history
Tasiusaq was founded in 1933 by shepherds and was subsequently settled by fishermen and hunters. In 1940 there were 52 people in Tasiusaq. In 1944 a school chapel was built. In 1945 the establishment of a depot in Tasiusaq was discussed and the following year the increase to Udsted , which was initially rejected. It was not until 1960, when already 135 people lived in Tasiusaq, that the place received the status of Udsted, from which the current village status arose.
economy
Tasiusaq lives from sheep farming and increasingly from tourism. The nature north of the village, unique for Greenland, with the only forest area in Greenland at the Qinnguatal attracts numerous hiking tourists. Seals are also hunted in the area and trout and salmon are caught in the fjord. The processing factory was destroyed in a fire caused by a short circuit in 2007. The establishment of a seaweed factory was considered. There are other job opportunities in administration, in the shop and in school.
Infrastructure and supply
Tasiusaq port is to the west of the village. There is also a pontoon jetty in the south. The Tasiusaq heliport is located near the port and connects the place by air.
The local power plant was expanded in 2011. The water supply comes from the damming of some small watercourses directly north of the village. The garbage is dumped and incinerated and sewage is discharged into the ground and fjord.
Development
The Tasiusaq school teaches about six students up to seventh grade from the village itself and the surrounding farms. There is also a service building, a community workshop, a fire station and a Pilersuisoq branch in the village . To the west is the cemetery and to the east is a large football field.
Population development
The population of Tasiusaq is declining sharply. The population was relatively constant until 2004, but has more than halved in the last 15 years.
