Qorlortorsuaq [ ˌqɔɬːɔˈtːɔsːuɑq ] (according to the old spelling K'ordlortorssuaĸ ) is a Greenlandic shepherd settlement in the Nanortalik district in the Kujalleq municipality .
location
Qorlortorsuaq is located at the end of the Amitsuarsuk fjord and on a plain between the two lakes Qorlortorsuup Tasia in the north and Amitsuarsuup Tasia in the south. The nearest places are Qallimiut 13 km away at the mouth of the fjord in Qallimiut Imaat and 10 to 13 km away Igaliku Kujalleq in the north. The next larger town is Ammassivik , which is 21 km southwest.
history
Qorlortorsuaq is one of the numerous shepherd settlements in the municipality. In 2003 the construction of a waterfall power plant began at the eponymous country's largest waterfall in the village, which drains the Qorlortorsuup Tasia over the Amitsuarsuup Kuua into the Amitsuarsuup Tasia, which was completed in 2007. The power plant supplies the two cities of Qaqortoq and Narsaq with electricity, with a 70 km power line leading there. Two Francis turbines produce 27 GWh of energy annually for the approximately 4,400 residents of the two cities.
Population development
The population of Qorlortorsuaq has fluctuated between one and thirteen over the past 40 years, with high phases in the early 1990s and around 2010.
