Qernertoq [ ˈqɜˌnːɜtːɔq ] (according to the old spelling K'ernertoĸ ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the Nanortalik district in the municipality of Kujalleq .
location
Qernertoq was the easternmost residential area in West Greenland . The place was on the west coast of a large island of the same name at the eastern beginning of the Ikeq . The closest still inhabited place is Aappilattoq , which is 50 km northwest.
history
Qernertoq was already inhabited in the 19th century. The place originally belonged to the Moravian Brethren . From 1911 Qernertoq belonged to the municipality of Sammisoq.
In 1919 there were 29 residents living in six poorly built houses. There were four hunters and two fishermen and a catechist among the residents. The residents made their living by hunting seals and fishing.
Four years later, Qernertoq was given up.
