Sissarissoq [ ˈsisːɑˌʁisːɔq ] (according to the old spelling Sigssarigsoĸ ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the Nanortalik district in the municipality of Kujalleq .

location

Sissarissoq is located on the west coast of the main part of the island Nanortalik , which is about 2.5 km northeast on a small peninsula.

history

In 1778 the commercial assistant Caspar Alsbach, a grandson of Hans Egedes , settled in Sissarissoq or Nanortalik to collect bacon and furs from the Greenlanders. Sissarissoq was founded in 1797 by Johan Christian Mørch (1768–1830) and his brother-in-law and later father-in-law David Lars Emanuel Kleist (1758–1826) as a facility. The old apartment of the colonial administrator in Qaqortoq was moved to Siissarissoq for this. Many Greenlanders soon settled in the facility.

Due to better harbor conditions, Nanortalik was built on the rugged peninsula northeast in 1830 and some of the buildings of Sissarissoq were moved to where they now form the Nanortalik Museum . In 1899 Sissarissoq was finally given up entirely.
