In 1919 Illorpaat had 120 inhabitants who lived in 21 Greenlandic houses. There was also a school chapel, which was set up in the former Herrnhut missionary apartment and measured 101 m². There were sixteen hunters, four fishermen, a catechist, a reader and a midwife among the residents. The population lived mainly from seal hunting.

In 1950 the living space was incorporated into the Nanortalik community . In 1950 Illorpaat had only 75 inhabitants and in 1960 the same number, in 1970 there were 26 and 1975 still 4.
