Anorliuitsoq [ aˈnɔɬːiuit͡sɔq ] (according to the old spelling Anordliuitsoĸ ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the Nanortalik district in the municipality of Kujalleq .

location

Anorliuitsoq is located on the east coast of Pamialluk Island . Anorliuitsup Imaa Sound separates the island from the opposite island of Annikitsoq . Right next to Anorliuitsoq is the Anorliuitsup Tasia lake . The closest inhabited place is Aappilattoq , which is nine kilometers to the north.

history

Anorliuitsoq was first settled in 1853. The residents originally belonged to the Moravian Brethren . From 1911, Anorliuitsoq belonged to the municipality of Pamialluk.

In 1919 the place had 45 residents who lived in ten houses. There was a 21 m² school chapel made of wood, but it was only sparsely equipped. There were twelve hunters and one catechist among the residents. Most of them lived from sealing seals.

Six residents of Anorliuitsoq and Narsarmijit wanted to relocate to Kangerlussuatsiaq (Lindenow Fjord) in the same year , but this was rejected by the Provincial Council because this place would have been extremely remote (in fact, it would have been on the east coast of Greenland). In 1923, Pamialluk was given up as an associated Udsted . In 1925, Anorliuitsoq became part of the new municipality of Aappilattoq after Aappilattoq was promoted to Udsted in 1923, but Anorliuitsoq was also abandoned that same year.

In the 1930s the place was settled again. In the 1940s the population fluctuated between 20 and 27 people and in 1949 Anorliuitsoq was abandoned again.
