Ole Bendixen

Ole Bendixen (born December 7, 1869 in Søften Sogn , Favrskov municipality ; † June 24, 1958 in Ordrup Sogn , Gentofte municipality ) was a Danish businessman , explorer , author and inspector of Greenland .

Life

Ole Bendixen took the main examination, 4th grade, in Aarhus in 1888 . In 1890 he became a second lieutenant . From 1893 he worked as a volunteer in Qeqertarsuaq . In the next year he moved first to Aasiaat , then to Appat . In 1897 he became administrator in Qeqertarsuaq and in 1899 assistant in Appat. In 1902 he became chairman of the trade office. In 1903 he was appointed inspector of South Greenland . After 11 years, he was retired in 1914. In the same year he was awarded the Wasa Order. In 1916 and 1918 to 1919 he went on expeditions. He also wrote several non-fiction books about Greenland in the 1920s.

family

Ole Bendixen was the son of Peder Olesen and his wife Christiane Christensen. On October 17, 1914, he married the teacher Emmy Elliot in Copenhagen. The daughter Lisbeth Christiane Bendixen (1915–2007) emerged from the marriage and was married to Ebbe Morten Edelberg (1909–1977). One of his granddaughters from this marriage was the anthropologist Ida Nicolaisen b. Edelberg (* 1940), who was married to Abraham Pais (1918–2000). According to the 1930 census, the son Peer Mogens Bendixen was born in 1916.
