Ludvig Fasting

Ludvig Fasting (born June 21, 1789 in the Christianssæde manor , Skørringe Sogn , † November 24, 1863 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish teacher and inspector of Greenland .

Life

Fasting graduated from Herlufsholm in 1808 and lived in Elers' college , then studied law, but did not graduate. For a few years he was a teacher at the royal cadet corps for Danish, German and natural history. During this time he wrote a reader in 1817, which he translated from German and which mainly contained fairy tales and fables for children and young people. He was considered a student personality, founded a student association and was considered a role model for a character in Poul Martin Møller's En dansk Students Eventyr . In 1821 he became captain and company commander of the royal bodyguard , later major . In 1828 Fasting was employed as an inspector in North Greenland . He stood up for the economic and health development of the country, equipped the population with better goods and improved the building structure. In 1838 he wrote a bilingual letter to the entire North Greenland population. On the occasion of the golden jubilee of King Friedrich VI. he founded a reading society . Many stories emerged about Fasting's travels through his great inspectorate, which he administered from Qeqertarsuaq . In 1842, however, he fell ill and had to winter in Qasigiannguit before resigning from office in 1843. His successor was Hans Peter Christian Møller . In 1850 he became director of the Copenhagen poor welfare department before he died in 1863.

Ludvig was the son of Christianssæder inspector, Kronborg administrator and councilor Jens Martin Fasting (1756-1821) and Christiane Charlotte Oxenbøll (1763-1837) was born. In 1828 he married Beate Sophie Elisabeth von Bergen (1799–1857), daughter of the secretary, archivist, stamp administrator and chamber councilor Johann Daniel von Bergen (1762–1830) and Beate Antoinette Elisabeth Schnabel (1778–1842) in Fredensborg . Ludvig Fasting was the great-uncle of the Danish painter Johannes Wilhjelm .
