Frederik Diderik Sechmann Fleischer

Frederik Diderik Sechmann Fleischer (born February 23, 1783 in Klepp , † September 3, 1849 in Aarhus ) was a Danish-Norwegian merchant . He was provisional inspector of North Greenland for two years .

Life

Frederik Fleischer studied law in Bergen and Copenhagen . In 1804 he came to Greenland, where he worked as an assistant in Appat . A year later he moved to the nearby Ataa , where he worked as a whaling assistant. In 1808 he was appointed a merchant in Appat and in the same year moved to Imerissoq as a senior assistant , where he was again active as a merchant from 1814. In 1815 he moved to Qeqertarsuaq , where he represented Peter Hanning Motzfeldt, who had returned to Denmark but not exempted from office, as inspector of North Greenland. It was not until 1817 that Johannes West was appointed as his successor. Frederik Fleischer returned to Denmark and was henceforth a merchant and councilor in Aarhus.

Frederik Diderik Sechmann Fleischer was the son of Philipp August Fleischer (1745–1807) and Anne Hegelund Christie (1748–1794). His father was the son of the Sorenskrivers Johan Sechmann Fleischer (1702–1789) and Catharina Knudsdatter Geelmuyden (1705–1774), who was of Dutch origin. The Fleischer family originally immigrated to Denmark from Elbląg . The Christie family is from Scotland . Through his mother he was a cousin of Wilhelm Frimann Koren Christie (1778–1849). He was also a descendant of Heinrich von Sachsen-Lauenburg (1550–1585), Bishop of Bremen , Osnabrück and Paderborn , and the pharmacist Esaiah Fleischer (1585–1663). The father of his stepmother was the bishop Ole Irgens (1724-1803).

During his time in Greenland, Frederik had a relationship with the Inuk woman Christine Marie (1791–?). The following children emerged from this partnership, from whom all later Fleischers in Greenland descended:

  • Frederik Diderik Fleischer (1811–?)
  • Peder Hamer Hans Fleischer (1815–?)
  • Peter Motzfeldt Fleischer (1817–1819)

After he returned to Denmark, he married Anne Mette Christine Klitgaard (1779–1875), who bore him two more children:

  • Pouline butcher (1824-1857)
  • Philip Fleischer (1827–?)
