Johan Carl Joensen

Johan Carl Joensen (born September 25, 1857 in Tórshavn , † October 2, 1907 there ) was a Faroese inspector of Greenland .

Life

Joensen worked as a manufacturer in the Faroese capital Tórshavn before he started trading at Den Kongelige Grønlandske in Copenhagen in 1880 and was transferred to Sisimiut and later to Aasiaat the following year . From 1885 he worked for five years as a colonial administrator in Qeqertarsuaq , Qasigiannguit and Uummannaq . In 1890 he was appointed inspector for South Greenland as the successor to Carl Julius Peter Ryberg and was replaced after a year by Conrad Poul Emil Brummerstedt . He continued to work in Greenland before he was appointed inspector of North Greenland in 1898 as the successor to Niels Alfred Andersen . Along with Claus Bendeke and Carl Peter Holbøll, he was one of the only three who were inspectors in both North and South Greenland. He held the office until 1900, before Jens Daugaard-Jensen took over for the next twelve years. He worked in Uummannaq until 1904 before he retired and died three years later.

In 1897 Johan Carl Joensen was seen in a 45-second film recording called Kørsel med Grønlandske Dogs by Peter Elfelt , which shows him as a dog sled driver in Fælledparken in Copenhagen. This film was the first ever recorded in Denmark .

family

He was the son of Niclas Joensen and Susanne Larsen. From 1890 his wife was Amalie Müller (1866–?), Daughter of Hans Christopher Müller. Her brothers Poul and Rasmus also worked in Greenland, as did Johan Carl's cousin Johan Christian Evensen. His children were:
