Lorentz Frederik Mathiesen

Lorentz Frederik Mathiesen (born November 23, 1832 in Paamiut ; † December 19, 1920 ) was a Danish merchant and inspector of Greenland .

Life

Lorentz Frederik Mathiesen was the son of the colonial administrator Jens Mathias Mathiesen (1800–1860) and his wife Elisabeth Emilie Dreier (1802–1897) and was born in Paamiut, where his father had just been transferred. He married his cousin Karen Marie Elisabeth Dreyer (1840–?) In Nuuk on August 30, 1870 .

Lorentz Frederik Mathiesen became a volunteer in Ilulissat in 1859 , but only one year later to Appat and another year later to Upernavik . In 1865 he was appointed interim commercial assistant in Kangersuatsiaq , which he remained until 1868. After a year break, he was transferred to South Greenland in 1869, where he was appointed commercial assistant in Nanortalik . Only a year later he became colonial administrator in Nuuk. From 1873 to 1874 he represented Hannes Peter Stephensen as inspector of South Greenland . In 1875 he became colonial administrator in his birthplace. In 1880 he was transferred to Maniitsoq . After an interruption from 1882 to 1883, he was finally retired from service in 1885. He died widowed in 1920 at the age of 88.
