List of administrators in Greenland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From the colonization by Denmark to the introduction of the Hjemmestyre in 1979, the administration of Greenland was headed by people with different office titles.

In 1728 the Danish government took over the administration of Greenland and Claus Paarss was appointed governor ( guvernør ) of Greenland. Colonization was broken off in 1731. Only in 1782 was another administrator appointed each of the colony, which had meanwhile been divided into the two parts of North Greenland and South Greenland . This was called Inspektor ( inspektør ) and was used by Den Kongelige Grønlandske Handel (KGH). From 1925 the office of the inspector was replaced by that of the Landsfogeds (lit. Landesvogt ). At the Second World War two parts of the country were often managed by the same staff since 1950, both parts of the country were combined and the Landsfoged by a Landshøvding (literally. State chief ) replaced.

In East Greenland , which together with the Thule district had a special role for a long time, Helge Ingstad Sysselmann was from 1932 to 1933 Eirik Raudes Land, which was occupied by Norway . When this was added to Denmark in 1933, Ejnar Mikkelsen was appointed inspector of East Greenland, which he remained until 1950.

The following persons were the governor, inspector, Landsfoged or Landshøvding of Greenland until 1979.
