history

Akuliaruseq was founded before 1850. It used to be a large living space. The residents belonged to the Moravian Brethren . From 1911 Akuliaruseq was part of the municipality of Sydprøven.

In 1919 the place had 117 inhabitants who lived in 16 houses. There was also a school chapel built in 1914/18 which is now protected and measured 35 m² and had a small church tower. The population consisted of 19 hunters, a fisherman and a seminarium-trained catechist. The population lived mainly from sealing seals.

In 1930 there were 153 residents in Akuliaruseq. In 1942 Pavia Høegh built a new school chapel. The population sank to 40 in 1950. In 1950 the place became part of the municipality Nanortalik . Akuliaruseq was abandoned in 1961, but the place still functioned as a shepherd's settlement that lasted until 2009.

Population development

In 1977 Akuliaruseq still had 14 residents. The number sank slowly in the next 30 years until the last resident left the place in 2009.
