Nukissiorfiit ( German The Places Where Energy Is Made ) is the state utility company in Greenland .

history

In 1949 a power pole was erected in Greenland for the first time, after the first telegraph and weather station had been built in 1946 and it had then been decided that caloric power plants, which are operated with heating oil , should be built in Nuuk , Sisimiut , Aasiaat and Qaqortoq . The first oil power plant opened in Nuuk in 1949. The following year, Grønlands Tekniske Organization (GTO) was founded, which was responsible for the technical supply of the country. In 1959 the company was also commissioned with the water supply, with the first water network being built in Narsaq as early as 1950 . In 1960 the first thermal power station was built in Maniitsoq . In 1975 all of Greenland's capitals had a power station when one was built in Kangaatsiaq . In 1985 all cities also had a secure water supply and in the same year GTO became a state company and in 1987 the government. The company was renamed Nuna-Tek , short for Nunatsinni Teknikkikkut Ingerlatsivik ( German Where in our country the progress of technology etc. is made ). The division Nuna-Tek Nukissiorfiit was commissioned from then on with the supply. It was based in Nuuk and then opened a branch in each city and an office in Copenhagen . In 1990 the company was nationalized again.

In 1993 the Bukse Fjord hydropower plant was opened in Nuuk as the first hydropower plant in Greenland. The company was renamed Nukissiorfiit - Grønlands Energiforsyning in 1991 and Nukissiorfiit in 2006 . In 2007, Sarfannguit was the first place to be equipped with electricity meters , which have been around the country since 2012. In 2010, electricity was generated from hydrogen for the first time . Today over 70% of the electricity generated is obtained from renewable energies , the rest from caloric oil power plants . By 2030, Greenland's energy should come entirely from renewable energy sources.

Power plants

Today Nukissiorfiit operates 19 larger power plants, but the small settlements are also supplied by Nukissiorfiit.
