Isertoq [ isɜtːɔ (q) ] (according to the old spelling Isertoĸ ; Kitaamiusut Isortoq ) is a Greenland settlement in the district Ammassalik in the Sermersooq .
location
Isertoq is located on the north coast of the small island of the same name in the middle of an offshore archipelago between the Isertup Kangertiva and an unnamed bay. A strait only 30 m wide separates the island from the mainland. It is 62 kilometers to the east to the district capital Tasiilaq , which is also the closest place. Isertoq is the southernmost town in the district.
history
The inhabitants of East Greenland used to be nomads and changed their place of residence every six months. In 1920 the island was settled for the first time, but it was not until 1942 that it was founded. In 1930, 43 people lived in Isertoq. In the 1940s there were around 70. In 1960 121 people lived in Isertoq and the place received the status of Udsted . In 1964, a school chapel was built in Isertoq for the 38 local students. In 1970, 155 people lived there.
Infrastructure and supply
Isertoq can be reached by ship from June to November at the most. There is also the Isertoq heliport . The residents move around the town on foot, by boat and, in winter, by dog sledding and snowmobiles .
In Isertoq there is a Pilersuisoq branch that supplies the residents with goods. The electricity and water supply is taken over by Nukissiorfiit . Garbage is dumped or incinerated in the incineration plant that went into operation in 2000.
Development
Isertoq has a school, a service building that also functions as a hotel, a retirement home, a playgroup, a meeting building and an office.

Population development
The population of Isertoq is falling sharply. Since the late 1970s, the population has roughly three-thirds.
