Tiilerilaaq [ ˌtiːɾɜʁiɾɑː (q) ] ( Kitaamiusut Tinuteqisaaq [ ˌtˢinutˢɜqisɑːq ] conventional mixing notation Tiniteqilaaq ; according to the old spelling Tîlerilâĸ or Tiniteĸilâĸ or Tinuteĸissâĸ ) is a Greenland settlement in the district Ammassalik in the Sermersooq .
location
Tiilerilaaq is located on the southern tip of the Mamangi peninsula . Imiilaajiva Bay and the Tiilerilaap Ikaasaajiva Strait separate the town from Sarpaq Island . The large Ammassalik Ø follows directly . The next town is the district capital Tasiilaq , which is 31 km south.
history
The year Tiilerilaaq was founded is unknown as the Tunumiit used to be nomads. It is assumed that the place was firmly settled as early as 1920. In 1930 there were 40 inhabitants and in 1940 there were already 76. In 1946 a school chapel was built in Tiilerilaaq. In 1950 the population had risen to 110 people. In 1957 the place got a shop from the KGH , although Tiilerilaaq never had the status of Udsted . In 1960 there were 154 people in Tiilerilaaq. In 1960 an apartment was built for an obstetrician and in 1965 a radio station. By 1970 the population had risen to 208.
economy
The residents of Tiilerilaaq make their living mainly from seal hunting and polar bear hunting . Large amounts of cod were also caught in the 1960s and 1970s . Tourism also plays a role in Tiilerilaaq; there are several places to stay for tourists.
Infrastructure and supply
Tiilerilaaq can be reached by boat from July to November. The place is approached by a passenger ship once a week. In addition, the place can be reached by air via the Tiilerilaaq heliport .
Nukissiorfiit guarantees the electricity, heat and water supply on site. Garbage is dumped and incinerated, while sewage is discharged into the sea.
Development
In the primary school of Tiilerilaaq about 20 students are taught up to the seventh grade. There is also a Pilersuisoq branch, which supplies the residents with goods, a playgroup, a service building, an assembly building, a post office and an infirmary and a school chapel from 1950.
