Umiivik [ uˈmiːvi (k) ] (according to the old spelling Umîvik ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Ammassalik in the Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq .

location

Umiivik is located on a small island on Attivala Imaa (Nansen Bugt) in the area of Umiiviip Kangertiva (Gyldenløve Fjord).

history

Umiivik was settled in 1960 by 28 people from Skjoldungen . Some moved even further north and settled in Pikiittit . In 1962 22 residents were counted. The place was then abandoned for two years before around 20 people lived in Umiivik again in 1965. In 1967 there were even 50. In 1971 Pikiittit and Umiivik were given up, while nobody had lived in Skjoldungen since 1964.
