Ikkatteq [ iˌkːatːɜ (q) ] ( Kitaamiusut Ikkattoq ; according to the old spelling Íkáteĸ or Íkátoĸ ) is a waste fallen Greenland settlement in the district Ammassalik in the Sermersooq .

location

Ikkatteq is located on an island to the east of the entrance to the Sermilik fjord . Directly to the east is the larger island of Immikkeerteq , which separates Ikkatteq from the much larger Ammassalik Ø . It is 14 km to the east to Tasiilaq .

history

Ikkatteq should not be confused with the settlement of the same name from the 1950s on the site of the abandoned US air force base Bluie East-2, 67 km to the northeast . A permanent settlement was found in Ikkatteq before the 1920s. In 1930 25 people lived in Ikkatteq. In 1937 a school chapel was built on the residential area. In 1940 56 people lived in Ikkatteq and in 1958 there were 80. Ikkatteq was officially not an Udsted , but it was still operated by the KGH trade in town. The population fell sharply during the 1960s and in 1970 only 40 people lived in the village.
